Vanessa will be giving a talk describing the key concepts from her book "The Teaching Brain: An Evolutionary Trait at the Heart of Education" at this years Learning & the Brain conference. The theme for the conference this year is "Teaching Focused, Organized Minds in the Digital Age". The conference runs from Nov. 20-22, 2014 in Boston, MA and is co-sponsored by MBE, Harvard Graduate School of Education, the Martino Brain Imaging Center at MIT, and Dana Alliance for Brain Initiatives. Her talk will discuss how cognitive science can contribute to teaching and becoming expert teachers. The audience will be mostly K-12 teachers, special educators and school psychologists, college professors and parents - so please come join us.
The Learning & the Brain conference will explore the neuroscience of attention, teaching, learning, and focus in today's distracting, digital age. It will focus on ways to increase student focus in media distracting classrooms, improve engagement and concentration, improve reading and STEM learning in the digital age, reduce stress and distractions, ways to improve executive function skills and treat ADHD with technology, improve teaching, deal with fast paced information and slow processing ability, treat attention and executive function deficits, and and how teachers and educators help student's who struggle with attention, ADHD, processing problems, etc. Many neuroscientists, doctors, psychologists and experts will be participating, including Daniel Levitin, Daniel Goleman, Margaret Moore, Adam Gazzaley, John Gabrieli, Jerome Schultz, Kurt Fischer, Ellen Braaten, Joanna Christodoulou, Robert Desimone, Thomas Brown, Ari Tuckman, David Rabiner, Sam Goldstein, Carolyn Dalgliesh, Mark Fenske, David Daniel, Craig Surman, and many others.

Professor JOnathan Walton of the Harvard memorial church hosts vanessa rodriguez for a teaching brain book brunch
At the request of Professor Jonathan Walton at the Memorial Church. Professor Walton will be presenting copies of The Teaching Brain to church school families and hosting a brunch in the spring term to provide an opportunity for families to come together and discuss the book. Tentative date is Sunday, March 1 at 1:00 pm.
